Baby Goat Yoga: A Unique and Uplifting Experience

There’s something special about practicing yoga outdoors, surrounded by nature’s serenity and the soothing sounds of animals in the distance. At Andelin Family Farm, a unique experience awaits those who venture into the farm’s baby goat yoga sessions.

What makes this experience truly unique is the presence of baby goats, who are invited to join the 50-minute classes. These Nigerian Dwarf goats are known for their playful and curious nature, making them the perfect companions for a yoga practice. According to Cameron Andelin, owner of the farm, baby goat yoga has been a popular event at the farm for several years.

The Joy of Baby Goat Yoga

  • It’s an immersive experience that combines yoga, mindfulness, and the presence of adorable baby goats.
  • The goats’ playful nature and curiosity can trigger endorphins, improving your mood and reducing stress.
  • The experience is unique and can be a great way to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.

The goats are babies right now, averaging a little more than a month old. Sara Jo Johnson, who manages programs at the farm and also handles the baby goats, knows all 23 of them by name. She shares that the best part about the flow is going with the flow, as the goats may walk under you, graze around you, or settle on your mat for a rest.

“Okay, so we have Bingo and Blanco, Iceman, Candance, Billy and Bob, Linda, Goldie, Ash, Cal, Bacca,” she recites, holding Linda in her arms. “She loves her little pets and gets her scratches and obviously loves a little bit of a snuggle.”

Studies show that interacting with animals can have numerous health benefits, including reducing stress, alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression, and boosting mindfulness. The playful nature of goats can also trigger endorphins, improving your mood and overall well-being.

“It’s impossible to not be happy around these baby goats, let alone just doing yoga and taking a minute to breathe and be in nature,” says Cassie Leyva, one of the yoga and mindfulness instructors. “They’re curious about everything, they’re playful, they’re willing to jump on people and nibble at your hair.”
